Knebworth is a lovely little village in Hertfordshire, immediately south of Stevenage. The civil parish covers an area between the villages of Datchworth, Woolmer Green, Codicote, Kimpton, Whitwell, St Pauls Walden and Langley, and encompasses the village of Knebworth, the small village of Old Knebworth and Knebworth House.
There is clear evidence that people lived in Knebworth as far back as Neolithic times and it is mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086 where it is referred to as Chenepeworde, meaning the farm belonging to the Dane, Cnebba. Knebworth had a population of about 150 at the time. The original village, now known as Old Knebworth, developed around Knebworth House stately home.
Since 1974, Knebworth has been the home of numerous major open air rock and pop concerts at Knebworth House. Memorable performances include Queens final live performance which took place in 1986 and drew an attendance estimated as high as 300,000, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Oasis playing to a quarter of a million people for 2 nights in 1996 and more recently Robbie Williams, who for three nights in August 2003 performed to the largest crowds ever assembled for a single performer.
There are so many good reasons to replace your old windows, particularly in an area such as Knebworth which has a relatively high number of older properties. Maybe your old windows have shifted or warped over time, allowing draughts or even water to enter the property. Often new windows will be of a modern design that can tilt in for easy cleaning.
New windows will also be more efficient than your old windows at retaining the warmth in your house, not to mention being better at adding security because the locking mechanisms are superior to old fashioned windows.
A lot of older properties in Knebworth were originally fitted with timber framed windows, so why would you want to change completely to modern plastic frames? Unfortunately, the solid wooden window frames sold these days are simply not as durable and will not stand up to the elements as well as the wood that was used many years ago when the Knebworth properties were built. The reason for this is mainly because the timber today is usually farmed quickly to meet the high demand rather than being left to grow naturally and slowly. A slowly grown, natural wood will be harder and far more durable than one that has not matured over time, so an alternative material is preferable.
uPVC replacement windows are the most affordable choice for your home. You can even get different colours and even wood textures and grain patterns. The colours are UV stable for a long and durable life. There are even choices available that replicate some old fashioned window styles so you can maintain the aesthetics of your Knebworth property.
So many people get confused with these terms, but they refer to the same product. uPVC and PVCu are the same thing! uPVC changed its name to PVCu and sometimes PVC-U in the late 1980s to fall in line with Europe. It is called PVCu there because most European languages place the noun, or the term PVC in this case, before the adjective of U. The PVC part of it stands for Polyvinyl Chloride, the U stands for unplasticised.
It is also worth remembering that you could get up to seventy percent of the cost of replacement windows back when you sell your house. This figure only applies to good quality replacement windows, so if you choose the wrong windows from the wrong company, the window replacements could reduce the resale value of your home.
New replacement windows expertly fitted to your Knebworth property will improve the look of your home, help to keep it warmer and cut out the draughts. They will also have much higher security than old windows and frames. So if you live in or around the Knebworth area and would like to have new replacement windows fitted by a reputable and professional company, why not give us a call today?
