Windows, doors and conservatories repairs and maintenance

Like any other product, no matter how good it is, eventually your windows, doors and conservatories will require a little tender loving care or a repair here or there.

There are many types of windows, doors and conservatories being used in all types of buildings up and down the country; and they all have one thing in common, the battering they take from the elements.

It stands to reason that your windows, doors and conservatories will need some attention at some point. Whether this is due to the constant barrage from driving rain, or just everyday wear and tear, Aspect Windows and Doors are on hand to help with their upkeep and maintenance.

Although aluminium is generally the most popular material to be used for windows in commercial buildings, PVCu is the most common material that is used in our homes for replacement windows, doors and conservatories.

It's a simple fact of life that over a period of time parts can fail and will need replacing or repairing. Fortunately we do carry a stock of replacement handles, locks, and hinges on our vans and we can quickly supply and fit them.

Common repairs and servicing for doors, windows and conservatories

The most common maintenance and repair jobs we are contacted for include the following:

  • Window and door handles
  • Patio door wheels and tracks
  • Spring and spiral balances
  • Friction, window and door hinges
  • Air vents
  • Door furniture
  • Locking mechanisms for doors and windows
  • Security hardware such as locks and mechanisms
  • Wedge risers and keeps

To keep your windows and doors working flawlessly, they will need periodic maintenance. This could range from a simple application of a lubricant on a runner, through to a replacement handle or lock.

We offer a full range of servicing and replacement parts to ensure your windows, doors and conservatories continue to offer many years service.

Conservatory repairs

At Aspect Windows and Doors, we appreciate that a conservatory is a substantial investment, so we want to ensure that any repairs or maintenance are carried out quickly and professionally, so you can continue to enjoy your conservatory.

For example, cracks or damage to the building where the roof of the conservatory has been fitted can have a serious impact on the rest of your home. To prevent this, we can repair these problems before potentially expensive damage becomes an issue. Cracks in the brickwork may not appear at the time of installation, but become apparent as the building settles.

Conservatory roofs need to be regularly maintained as they can be exposed to the extremes of the weather. They are beaten by wind, rain and snow. Loose roof panels are one of the most common causes of leaks in conservatories, as this creates gaps where the water can find its way inside.

Cresting and finials are the decorative architectural devices seen on the roof of a conservatory. The cresting and finial is the decorative trim that runs along the ridge.

These mainly decorative additions to the conservatory do actually have other uses apart from improving the aesthetics of the conservatory. They are pretty effective at preventing birds from resting on the roof. Birds tend to defecate where they perch and are well known to drop items of food, which may include seeds that could sprout if left in crevices or gutters on the conservatory.

Aspect Windows and Doors can repair or replace the finials, cresting and end caps for any conservatory roofing system.

A little about Leighton Buzzard

There are a number of theories concerning the derivation of the Leighton Buzzard name, but the most likely is that Leighton came from Old English Leah-tun, meaning farm in a clearing in the woods. The "Buzzard" was added by the Dean of Lincoln, in whose diocese the town lay in the 12th century. Having two communities called Leighton and seeking some means of differentiating them, he added the name of his local Prebendary or representative to that of the town. At that time it was a Theobald de Busar and so over the years the town became known as Leighton Buzzard. The other Leighton became Leighton Bromswold.

Leighton Buzzard is also famous as the Grand Union Canal was opened there. More recently, Leighton Buzzard station was the location for part of the film Robbery, which is based on the so called Great Train Robbery, whereas the actual robbery took place just outside the town, at Bridego bridge, Ledburn. In the Domesday Book, Leighton Buzzard and Linslade were both called Leestone.
